My Butterfly Gavotte

As promised....I know, I know... I rarely keep them but here you go. The link to a short slide show of images of the completed piece, including some tight macro shots. I think Gavin has done a brilliant job of capturing the colours and textures of the work so no doubt I'll have to pay him well with raw fish....he does love his sushi.

I write up a bit of an explanation of the techniques, materials and inspiration etc, tomorrow. It's late now and I deserve a good nights sleep. I've a tsuba, to inlay with tiny yellow orchids, that I need to be fresh and sharp for in the morning...

Namaste,

Ford

Lovely finish Ford. I have already seen another moth like that, but this is far more beautiful. I like the "veins" carving and the way it has been covered like chirimen. Copper texture looks really organic, very well done.

Well, it's beautiful and I find the magnolia's particularly enchanting but - and I apologise in advance for my ignorance - what IS it? The thing itself I mean, I'm not sure of it's purpose.

A beautiful piece, Ford. I've long been a follower of your work (and Clive's!)and hope to be able to view many more of your creations. Keep up the good work.

Hi Lorenzo,

thanks for the compliments. I assume you mean the shibuichi kagamibuta with the moth...although this one is a butterfly.;-)

It's based on a variety called "copper"...it seemed obvious to put it on this copper vase and to really push the colour and subtle texture.

Hello Anonymous.

Thank for for the kind appreciation too. I suppose that technically speaking it's a vase...a small vessel with an opening at the top. I don't really concern myself with functional objects though...the shape was conceived merely as a canvas for the work I wanted to do. It's purpose is to be beautiful....:-)

Hello second Anonymous,

Thank you for your welcome support and kind comments also. I've got a busy year planned for 2009 so keep coming back and I'll try not to disappoint.

Namaste,

Ford
